Subsea Systems Design and Installation
STAT MARINE provides design and installation engineering of subsea systems for the oil and gas industry, with a focus on pipelines and risers. STAT MARINE capabilities extend from early project phases to construction and operation.
STAT MARINE engineers have multidisciplinary profiles and a strong field experience in both conventional and deepwater projects. In addition to an independent advice, we provide pragmatic, cost effective solutions by maintaining a constant focus on our customers’ needs as well as on construction and operational constraints.
Field architecture and Conceptual Development
The key to a successful and cost effective project development is the capability to identify and address in the early stages the main drivers. Our strength: bring together multi-discipline expertises and make a synthesis focusing on project specificities and objectives, with an application to the following areas:
- Layout and general architecture: Define optimum configurations, accounting for drill centers and platforms location, seabed conditions, interferences, future extensions and installation constraints.
- Design: Preliminary sizing and material selection of flowlines, risers, SPS and components, including their associated structural parts (foundations, protections).
- Fabrication: Sourcing of potential fabrication sites including assessment of local content possibilities.
- Installation: Address the requirements for transportation, lifting, pipelay, trenching / dredging and general subsea construction against existing and future vessels on the market.
- Operation: Flow assurance requirements, thermal performance, production monitoring, preservation philosophy.
- Inspection, Maintenance and Repair (IMR): Relying on a strong knowledge in subsea systems behaviour and failure modes, we define the need for integrity and production monitoring, the main design requirements for inspectability and maintainability (interfaces with subsea intervention tools, modularity) and the general IMR strategy.

STAT MARINE can bring from these studies some elements to customer's decision in the following axes:
- Cross-assessment of UFL & SPS concepts
- Highlight technically sound solutions and areas of concern
- Identify room for optimization
- Suppliers evaluation and selection
- Project cost estimate
STAT MARINE performs design to internationally recognized codes of conventional or deep water risers, flowlines, pipe in pipe systems, bundles, export lines and trunklines. Specific topics include:
- Hydraulic sizing, material selection,
- Corrosion,
- Strengh design,
- On-bottom stability,
- Mechanical protection,
- Free-spanning and in-place analysis,
- Tie-in design,
- Thermal buckling analysis and recommendation for mitigation.
STAT-Marine Engineers can provide their customers with efficient pipeline defects assessment and re-qualification, analysis of thermal buckling and recommendations for mitigation measures.
Dynamics of Offshore Systems
STAT MARINE capabilities in design and analysis cover all configurations of conventional and deepwater systems, including:
- Risers systems, comprising top tensioned risers, flexible riser and steel catenary risers
- Umbilicals
- Mooring lines
- Offloading lines
- Offshore Terminal Systems
The background of STAT MARINE engineers encompasses a broad range of technical skills required for the engineering expertise of the above systems:
- Hydrodynamics (drag loads, first and second order wave loads)
- Vibrations (Modal analyses, shock loads)
- Uncoupled or coupled dynamic analyses
- Fatigue (Time domain, Spectral approach, Frequency domain)
- Vortex Induced Vibrations
In conjunction with IMR expertise (see dedicated section), and based on strong knowledge of pipeline systems, we offer practical integrity management services covering:
- Identification of hazards and risk assessment,
- Recommendations for inspection,
- Specifications for monitoring equipment and methodology,
- Monitoring data integration (environment, loads, motions) and analysis, for diagnosis of live facilities against design prediction (e.g. dynamic risers),
- Specifications and procedures for intelligent pigging,
- Assessment of pipeline defects, remaining life and recommendations for future maintenance and repair works,
- Limit state engineering analyses,
We have also developed Emergency Response Systems, comprising procedures, repair methods and strategies designed to minimize the downtime of the facilities and keep the failure induced costs to a minimum.
STAT-Marine has developped design calculation spreadsheets based on industry standards (DNV, API, ASME) using Mathcad or Excel and use commercially available advanced tools for FE analysis and drafting:
- OrcaFlex, DeepLines,
- CAESAR II,
- STAAD Pro,
- ABAQUS,
- Autodesk suite: AutoCAD, Inventor Pro, 3ds Max.
